Topic: How is Transnational Policing Addressing Targeted Violence and Hate Crimes Against the Jewish Community and other Vulnerable Populations?
Hosts: Rutgers University Miller Center on Policing and Community Resilience is pleased to be working with, HETZ Organization, the International March of the Living, the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI), the University of Ottawa’s Professional Development Institute, and Global Consortium of Law Enforcement Training Executives (GCLETE).
Goal: We are assembling a transnational group of distinguished senior police officials to address targeted anti-Semitic violence. Attacks have morphed from sporadic cases of harassment and desecration a decade ago to targeted and orchestrated attacks on houses of worship, clergy, businesses, and everyday worshipers.
This shift in virulence and tactics suggests that the Jewish population is the proverbial canary in a coal mine. The brand of violence now occurring threatens democratic values and human rights. Historically, a surge in attacks on the Jewish population has augured violence against other marginalized or vulnerable communities.
During this roundtable we will examine the latest data and trends, discuss ways in which police services can be most effective in responding to targeted anti-Semitic violence and incidents, and provide proactive strategies for community engagement and partnerships.
